The Currency Management Department of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has officially brought a newly designed Rs 50 denomination banknote into market circulation.
While the new note retains the standard size and signature color palette of the previous series, it incorporates revised serial markings and enhanced security attributes. Issued under the authority of NRB Governor Prof. Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel, the new bill features the series year B.S. 2083 on the front and 2025 A.D. on the reverse.
The central bank emphasized that the newly released currency will circulate seamlessly alongside existing Rs 50 notes currently in use.
Key Features of the New Note:

Front Design: Features an image of Mount Everest on the left, the national flower Rhododendron (Laligurans) watermark on the right, a numeral “50” watermark, and the official central bank seal.

Security Thread: Incorporates an embedded 1.2 mm wide security thread inscribed with “NRB” that becomes clearly visible when held up to light.

Reverse Side: Prominently showcases a snow leopard in the center, flanked by “NEPAL RASTRA BANK” in English above and “RUPEES FIFTY” below.

Serial Range: Issued under serial numbers ranging from ट/२४ ०००००१ to ण/७० ९९९९९९.
The rollout comes as part of NRB’s periodic updates to replace worn currency and upgrade anti-counterfeiting measures across major denominations.
