CHITWAN — At least 40 people were injured early Friday morning when a passenger bus overturned on the Narayangadh–Muglin road section in Bharatpur Metropolitan City–29.
The accident occurred at approximately 3:10 AM at the notorious Ghumaune bend. The night bus, bearing registration number Lumbini Province 02-100 Kha 0460, was en route to Kathmandu from Dang when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to flip on the roadway.
Rescue and Medical Response
Local authorities and police personnel from the District Police Office, Chitwan, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to carry out rescue operations. According to Superintendent of Police Govinda Puri, the injured were immediately rushed to various medical facilities in Bharatpur for treatment.
The distribution of the injured across hospitals is as follows:
Maulakalika Hospital: 15 patients
Old Medical College: 17 patients
Chitwan Medical College: 5 patients
Discharged: 3 individuals were sent home after receiving first aid for minor injuries.
Current Situation
While most of the passengers are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, hospital sources indicate that several remain in serious condition. The identity of the victims is currently being verified by the police, and families are being notified.
Traffic along the vital Narayangadh–Muglin highway was briefly disrupted following the accident but has since been cleared by authorities. Preliminary investigations suggest the crash may have been caused by the driver’s fatigue or high speeds at the sharp turn, though a formal inquiry is ongoing.
