NPL expected to be a lifeline for domestic cricketers

The Nepal Premier League (NPL), hailed as the “Festival of Himalayas,” is set to run from November 30 to December 21 at TU International Cricket Ground. Featuring eight teams and significant investments, the League aims to transform Nepali cricket with robust anti-corruption measures, grassroots talent inclusion, and international stars like Martin Guptill and Shikhar Dhawan.

Launched in August by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the NPL has generated excitement as a platform for domestic players and a stepping stone for the national team. With marquee players earning Rs. 2 million and extensive team investments, it promises financial sustainability and professional growth for Nepali cricket.

Despite challenges, including ICC restrictions on foreign players, the NPL aspires to set new benchmarks. CAN’s long-term vision includes expanding the league to multiple venues and floodlit matches. Stakeholders remain optimistic about establishing the NPL as a foundation for cricket in Nepal, with the opening match between Biratnagar Kings and Janakpur Bolts kicking off the much-anticipated event.
