Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the price of petrol by Rs 2 per litre, adding fresh pressure on daily commuters and private vehicle owners across the country. The revised rates came into effect immediately following the corporation’s latest fuel price review.
With the adjustment, petrol prices now stand at approximately Rs 160.50 per litre in first-category areas, Rs 162 in second-category areas, and Rs 163 per litre in third-category regions, including major urban centers. The hike comes at a time when households are already grappling with rising living expenses.
While petrol prices were raised, diesel and kerosene prices were reduced by Rs 4 per litre, offering limited relief to the transport, agriculture, and industrial sectors. However, the benefit of cheaper diesel is unlikely to fully offset the impact of higher petrol costs on urban commuters and motorcycle users.
According to NOC, the price revision follows fluctuations in international fuel prices and updated import rates received from its supplier. The corporation maintains that periodic price adjustments are necessary to manage supply costs and financial sustainability.
The latest hike is expected to have a ripple effect on transport fares, delivery services, and everyday expenses, particularly in cities where petrol-powered vehicles dominate daily travel.
As fuel prices continue to fluctuate, consumers remain concerned about further increases and their long-term impact on household budgets and inflation.
