India have won the women’s cricket gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, defeating Sri Lanka by a massive 147 runsin the final in Nisshin, Japan. The victory gave India their first gold medal of the Games and extended their dominance in the women’s competition.
Batting first after winning the toss, India produced a powerful performance with the bat and posted an imposing 216 for 3in their 20 overs. Their top-order attack put Sri Lanka under pressure from the beginning and gave the team a huge total to defend.
Sri Lanka struggled badly during their chase and were eventually bowled out for just 69 runs. India’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings, preventing Sri Lanka from building any meaningful partnership and completing a one-sided victory.
The result also marks another Asian Games gold for India in women’s cricket. India had previously defeated Sri Lanka in the final at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, and they have now successfully defended their title in Japan.
The victory adds to India’s strong recent run against Sri Lanka. Just days before the Asian Games final, India had also defeated Sri Lanka in the Women’s Asia Cup final, making this another major title won by India against the same opponent.
For India, the gold medal provides an early boost at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, while Sri Lanka finish with the silver medal after reaching the final through convincing wins earlier in the tournament.
