Widespread outrage continues to grip Bara district following the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Simara.Demonstrations disrupted key transit routes, including blockades along the Birgunj-Pathlaiya road section and surrounding areas.
In an effort to calm the rising tensions, local administration officials and representatives from major political parties signed a five-point agreement late Thursday night. The deal included commitments to push for strict legal penalties, provide financial relief and employment opportunities to the bereaved family, bolster regional security, and investigate police officers accused of negligence during the initial search.
However, the victim’s parents and relatives firmly rejected the agreement, refusing to participate in the negotiations or sign the deal. Criticizing the administration for conducting talks without their direct involvement, the family demanded the presence of the Home Minister and insisted on guaranteed capital-level justice before claiming the child’s body from the hospital.
Police have taken two suspects into custody as investigations proceed. Local residents continue their sit-in protests, vowing to keep traffic halted until the family’s demands are directly addressed.
