The Election Commission of Nepal (EC) has announced that all preparations for the upcoming National Assembly (NA) elections have been completed ahead of the scheduled polls later this week. The announcement was made during a weekly press briefing held by the commission in Kathmandu.
According to EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, key electoral processes — including nomination registration, filing of claims and objections, candidate list finalization, and allocation of election symbols — have all been successfully concluded. Ballot papers have already been dispatched to the respective election officers’ offices across provinces.
Voting for the National Assembly seats is set to take place on Sunday, January 25, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm at designated polling centers throughout the country. A total of 18 National Assembly members will be elected through this process. However, Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress has already been declared elected unopposed, meaning the vote will be held for the remaining 17 seats.
Eligible voters in this election include members of the Provincial Assemblies, mayors and deputy mayors, and chairs and vice-chairs of local levels. The commission also clarified that local-level representatives who have resigned their positions to contest in the House of Representatives election, scheduled for March 5, 2026, have been excluded from the voter list for the NA polls
