England Wicketkeeper-Batsman John Simpson Joins Kathmandu Gorkhas in Latest NPL Signing

The Kathmandu Gorkhas have made another significant international acquisition, signing England wicketkeeper-batter John Simpson for the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025 season.

At 37 years old, Simpson brings a wealth of experience from more than 500 matches in English domestic cricket — including 11,351 first-class runs and a recent unbeaten 129 for Sussex. He has also appeared in ODI internationals for England, adding a valuable dimension of international pedigree.

Gorkhas’ head coach Monty Desai commented: “John Simpson brings proven leadership, experience, and composure to our squad. His presence will further strengthen our batting and wicket-keeping departments.”

With Simpson onboard alongside earlier signings like Ricardo Vasconcelos and Milind Kumar, the Gorkhas are shaping a strong overseas contingent — clearly signalling their intention to compete at the top in NPL 2025.

This latest move underlines how the NPL is attracting high-calibre talent from global cricket circuits, and further elevates the league’s profile in the region. Fans and stakeholders alike will be watching closely to see how Simpson’s experience translates on Nepali pitches.
