More than 100,000 people in the eastern and northern regions of the Philippines have been evacuated as the powerful Super Typhoon Fung-Wong approaches. The storm is packing sustained winds of around 185 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 230 km/h.
According to the national weather agency, Fung-Wong is expected to make landfall later today in Aurora province, located in central Luzon. Authorities have warned of intense rainfall, strong winds, and dangerous storm surges that could trigger floods and landslides.
The government has suspended schools, offices, and transport services while deploying emergency response teams to affected areas. Although the Philippines faces about 20 tropical storms each year, Fung-Wong is being described as one of the most powerful in recent years.
