The Nepal Government has declared a public holiday on Monday, March 31, 2025, to mark the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant festival for the Muslim community.
In a notice issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the decision, recognizing the cultural and religious importance of the Islamic celebration. Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the end of Ramadan—a month of fasting and prayer—is celebrated with great enthusiasm by Muslims around the world.
Ramchandra Tiwari, the ministry’s spokesperson, stated, “As per the announcement published in the Nepal Gazette on February 12, 2024, the government has decided to declare Monday, March 31, as a public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr.”
Nepal, a secular state since 2008, has consistently acknowledged the diverse cultural and religious practices of its citizens by declaring holidays for major festivals such as Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha. This gesture reflects the nation’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and mutual respect among its multicultural population.
