Nepal Rastra Bank Unveils 2024 Cyber Fraud Report

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has released its Strategic Analysis Report 2024, highlighting trends in cyber-enabled fraud reported this year. The report, mandated by the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2064 BS (2008), was presented to the government and focuses on fraud methods, laundering of illicit assets, and misuse of social media and payment systems.

Key findings show most suspects are 18-24-year-old students, with fraud often occurring within three months of account operation. Common scams include gift and parcel fraud, social media schemes, fake online platforms, OTP scams, and lottery fraud.

The report provides recommendations for financial institutions and law enforcement, while also reflecting on international efforts to combat cybercrime.
