Trekkers on the Annapurna Circuit are being urged to exercise caution, as the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) office in Manang has introduced a ban on loud music along the trail.
ACAP has requested trekkers to avoid using equipment that emits loud sounds, as well as fireworks or other explosive displays, to ensure minimal disturbance to the environment. Violators will face penalties as per the law.
Dhak Bahadur Bhujel, the chief of ACAP Manang, explained that loud music has already disrupted the habitats of wild animals and birds in the conservation area. To address this issue, ACAP has confiscated speakers from some trekkers and issued warnings to them.
Additionally, ACAP has intensified forest patrols to tackle illegal activities such as poaching. During recent patrols, 35 animal traps were discovered and destroyed. Despite ongoing awareness campaigns to curb poaching and the illegal wildlife trade, such activities persist. Offenders face severe penalties, including fines of up to NPR 1 million, imprisonment for up to 15 years, or both.
ACAP has encouraged visitors to enjoy a tranquil and enriching trekking experience. In collaboration with Ngisyang Rural Municipality, ACAP has also upgraded the trail from Talekhu in Ward No. 1 to Sabje-Munje, installing signboards to guide and enhance the journey for trekkers.
