President departs for Azerbaijan to attend COP 29

President Ramchandra Paudel left for Baku, Azerbaijan, on Sunday to lead Nepal’s delegation at the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), accompanied by his spouse and senior officials, including Forests and Environment Minister Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri. He will deliver Nepal’s national statement on November 12 and be the Chief Guest at a high-level side event on “Mountains in Peril” on November 13.

Nepal plans to emphasize the unique vulnerabilities of mountain regions to climate change, presenting findings on recent extreme weather events and advocating for loss and damage funds. Technical sessions and discussions with other mountainous countries will follow, addressing topics like extreme rainfall, floods, and climate finance. President Paudel designated Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav to assume his duties during his absence.
