The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has announced a ban on heavy vehicles, including trailers, on the Narayanghat to Kathmandu route from October 3 to 17, coinciding with the Dashain festival. The move aims to ensure smooth and safe travel for passengers entering and leaving the Kathmandu Valley during this peak travel period.
The ban will not apply to vehicles transporting essential goods such as food items, which will be allowed to operate without restriction.
DoTM spokesperson Ishwaridatta Paneru said the decision followed discussions with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the Department of Roads, Nepal Police, traffic police, transport operators, consumer organizations, Lhotse Multi-Purpose Pvt Ltd, NADA, and SIPRADI on September 24.
During the meeting, several other decisions were made, including the issuance of road permits for passenger vehicles across Nepal until the full moon of Dashain. However, restrictions on certain types and sizes of public vehicles on specific routes will remain in place due to the unique conditions of those roads.
