Minister for Water Supply, Pradeep Yadav, announced on Tuesday that the Melamchi Water Supply Project, currently on hold, will resume delivering water to the Kathmandu Valley by mid-September.
During a National Assembly meeting, Minister Yadav stated that the ministry has implemented alternative measures to address the inconsistent water supply from the Melamchi project. He highlighted ongoing government efforts to secure the dam site and ensure a steady supply of drinking water.
Minister Yadav expressed frustration over bureaucratic delays hindering some projects, despite clear directives from the government. He emphasized the ministry’s proactive steps to complete various ongoing projects on time and requested sufficient funding from the Ministry of Finance.
He also outlined the government’s short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans to provide clean and safe drinking water to the public, focusing on effective implementation. In response to a query from National Assembly member Madan Kumari Shah, Minister Yadav reaffirmed the government’s commitment to these plans, assuring that water supply through the project’s tunnels will resume as soon as weather conditions improve.
