Flights on the Jomsom-Pokhara route have resumed today after a two-month suspension. The air service, which connects Pokhara, the capital of Gandaki Province, with Jomsom, a popular tourist destination in Mustang district, had been halted since July 1 due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Keshav Lamsal, the chief of Jomsom Airport, confirmed that Summit Airlines operated five flights on the route today, noting that weather conditions have improved. The resumption of services coincides with the start of the tourist season. Lamsal also mentioned that Tara Air, a subsidiary of Yeti Airlines, plans to begin flights on the route from September 3.
Today, a total of ninety passengers arrived in Mustang on five flights, according to Lamsal. The resumption of flights has brought relief to travelers, including pilgrims, especially as landslides have disrupted the Benighat-Jomsom road section in Myagdi.
Until now, with both road and air access to Mustang restricted, people had to rely on helicopters, significantly increasing the cost of travel.
