Nepal welcomed a total of 92,573 international tourists in January, marking an encouraging start to 2026 and signaling early signs of recovery in the tourism sector.
According to official data, Indian tourists formed the largest share of arrivals, continuing a long-standing trend driven by close cultural ties, ease of travel, and growing cross-border connectivity. Visitors also arrived from countries including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Tourism officials say the rise in arrivals reflects improved air connectivity, post-pandemic travel confidence, and renewed interest in Nepal’s trekking routes, heritage sites, and adventure tourism offerings. January is typically considered an off-season month, making the figures particularly positive for the industry.
Stakeholders in the tourism sector are optimistic that upcoming months—especially the spring trekking season—will see even higher inflows, providing a much-needed boost to hotels, travel agencies, airlines, and local businesses dependent on tourism.
The government has reiterated its commitment to promoting Nepal as a safe and attractive destination, with a focus on sustainable tourism and improved visitor services.
