Nepal and China have launched a joint security patrol in the Korala region, a high-altitude border point in Mustang district, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation on border security and management.
Security personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Chinese border authorities carried out the coordinated patrol along the Himalayan frontier to enhance surveillance, prevent cross-border crime, and ensure stability in the sensitive border area. Officials said the patrol focused on monitoring illegal crossings, smuggling activities, and maintaining overall law and order in the remote region.
The Korala area, located near the Nepal-China border trade route, has strategic importance due to its geography and growing movement of people and goods. Authorities from both sides emphasized that the joint patrol is part of regular cooperation mechanisms agreed upon by Nepal and China to manage border-related challenges through coordination and mutual trust.
Nepali officials stated that such joint activities help build confidence between the two countries while respecting Nepal’s sovereignty and border regulations. Chinese authorities echoed similar views, highlighting the importance of collaboration in maintaining peace and security along the shared border.
The patrol comes amid increased focus on border management in the Himalayan region, especially as weather conditions, trade activities, and regional security concerns evolve. Both sides have indicated that similar joint patrols may continue in the future as part of ongoing bilateral security cooperation.
