A powerful explosion in a parked car near the historic Red Fort left at least eight people dead and around 20 others injured, according to Delhi Police. The blast occurred near the Red Fort metro station during peak evening traffic, igniting nearby vehicles and causing panic in the busy Old Delhi area.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene as flames engulfed multiple cars and auto-rickshaws. Authorities have invoked anti-terror laws as investigations continue to determine whether the explosion was accidental or a deliberate act. Police have detained the car’s owner for questioning, while CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being analysed.
Security has been heightened across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and neighbouring states, with checks intensified at metro stations and major public locations. Leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed condolences and assured swift action.
