Major progress has been made on the much-anticipated upgrade of the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. All six high-mast floodlight towers have now been erected — four standing at 45 metres and two at 60 metres — each weighing around 30 tonnes.
Of the six towers, lighting fixtures have already been partially installed on poles 1, 4, 5 and 6; installation on the remaining two is expected soon.
Meanwhile, the parapet seating area (which will accommodate approximately 10,000 spectators) is reported to be 95 % complete.
Officials say the full upgrade — comprising the floodlights, seating and other infrastructure improvements — is aimed for completion in time for the upcoming Nepal Premier League season, set to begin on 17 November.
The government has also approved the stadium’s expansion as a national-priority project, with an estimated budget of around Rs 10 billion for the next construction phase.
This significant milestone brings the ground closer to being capable of hosting night matches — a major boost for Nepal’s cricketing infrastructure and fan-experience.
