On Friday, a delegation led by Sean Chiao, Chief Executive Officer of Surbana Jurong (SJ) in Singapore, met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to discuss expanding the Group’s investment in Nepal’s infrastructure and urban development sectors.
During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence, SJ expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in Nepal’s energy, tourism, railway, tunnel-way, smart city, and expressway projects. SJ, owned by the Singapore government, has already established an office in Nepal.
Prime Minister Oli assured the delegation of his commitment to fostering a conducive environment for collaboration and cooperation with prestigious international investors to achieve Nepal’s national goal of “prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali.” He praised Singapore’s rapid development and expressed hope that SJ’s expertise would contribute to Nepal’s progress and prosperity.
However, the Prime Minister emphasized that simply having a budget is not enough; the government is fully committed to accelerating development efforts in Nepal. He expressed his desire to establish the government as a true people’s government, committed to eliminating corruption and promoting the country’s development and the well-being of its citizens. He also promised legal and structural reforms to encourage investment from organizations like SJ in Nepal.
The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board of Nepal, Sushil Gyawali, SJ’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Transformation Officer Ling Su Min, CPN (UML) central urban development department chief Sher Bahadur Tamang, SJ South Asia Chief Executive Avinash Misra, and Nepal Chief Bilas Koirala.
