Kathmandu Valley to Witness Significant Winter Rainfall on Saturday
The Kathmandu Valley is set to experience its first substantial winter rainfall on Saturday, driven by a Western disturbance, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM). Many parts of Nepal are also expected to see cloudy skies.
The DHM forecasts light to moderate rainfall across most areas of Sudurpaschim and Karnali Provinces, including high hills and mountainous regions, beginning Saturday afternoon and lasting until Sunday.
Rojan Lamichhane, a meteorologist at the DHM’s Meteorological Forecasting Division, added that light to moderate snowfall is anticipated in several high-altitude areas of Gandaki, Bagmati, and Koshi Provinces. Additionally, light to moderate rain is expected in Sudurpaschim, Karnali, and parts of Lumbini Provinces. Some areas in Gandaki, Bagmati, Madhes, and Koshi Provinces may also experience light rain.
This weather system is likely to bring a noticeable drop in temperatures, Lamichhane said.
The DHM has urged the public and relevant stakeholders to take precautions due to potential impacts on daily life, agriculture, aviation, transportation, mountaineering, and other sectors caused by rain, snowfall, and cold temperatures.
Dr. Binod Pokharel, Associate Professor at Tribhuvan University’s Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, highlighted that Saturday’s rainfall is expected to clear dust and pollution from the Valley. “The heavier rain compared to last Tuesday will bring cold weather for the next two days before conditions return to normal,” he stated.
