Nepal cricket fans are excited as the Nepal Premier League (NPL) begins this Saturday at the TU International Cricket Ground. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has nearly completed preparations, with President Chatur Bahadur Chand confirming readiness for the opening game between Biratnagar Kings and Janakpur Bolts at 12:15 pm.
The revamped TU Ground features separate entry zones, a digital scoreboard, and VIP sections, addressing past concerns. Tickets for the opener sold out two days ago, with over 10,000 expected to attend.
The NPL has seen significant investment, with eight franchises auctioned for over Rs. 168 million and marquee players signed for Rs. 2 million each. Foreign stars like Martin Guptill and James Neesham are participating, alongside top Nepali talents. The tournament, backed by record-breaking sponsorship deals, will also be broadcast globally on Star Sports.
Sandeep Lamichhane urged patience for the league’s long-term success, while captains and players promised competitive cricket, with the first match setting the tone for the tournament.
