Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to lead a Nepali delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters in New York. He is scheduled to address the UNGA on September 26, with the central theme for this year’s General Debates being “Leaving No One Behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.”
During his visit, Prime Minister Oli will attend the Opening Session of the General Debate on September 24, followed by a reception hosted by U.S. President Joseph Biden on September 25, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Oli will also speak at the Summit of the Future. Additionally, he is set to address the High-Level Plenary Meeting on Sea-Level Rise and the High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), among other important sessions.
On September 23, Prime Minister Oli will give a keynote speech titled ‘Nepal’s Journey to Democracy and Economic Prosperity’ at Columbia University. He will also speak at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at Harvard University on September 27, focusing on “Nepal’s Perspective: From Transitional Justice to Climate Justice.”
The Prime Minister is also expected to meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA.
Oli will be accompanied by his spouse, Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other senior officials. He is expected to return to Kathmandu on September 30.
