The water level of the Karnali River has exceeded the danger mark following two days of continuous rainfall. Parbati Gurung, a gauge reader at the Automatic Water Level Station in Chisapani, reported that the river’s water level has risen to 10.9 meters, surpassing the danger level of 10.80 meters.
Residents living along the riverbanks, as well as those in several municipalities in Bardiya and Kailali districts affected by the rising waters, have been placed on high alert and advised to move to safer locations.
The swelling Karnali River is having a significant impact on Rajapur Municipality, Geruwa Rural Municipality, and Madhuwan Municipality in Bardiya, while areas in Tikapur Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality in Kailali are already flooded.
Gurung emphasized that residents in flood-prone areas have been warned to stay on high alert.
