Election Nominations Surge as 3,424 Candidates Filed by 64 Parties for Proportional Seats

The Election Commission of Nepal has reported a significant rise in election nominations, with 3,424 candidates submitted by 64 political parties under the proportional representation system ahead of the 2026 general elections.

According to the Commission, the high number of candidates reflects growing political participation and heightened competition among parties. The proportional representation system allows parties to secure seats based on their overall vote share, ensuring broader inclusion of women, marginalized communities, and minority groups.

Election officials stated that the nomination review process is underway and emphasized that preparations for the upcoming polls are progressing as scheduled. The surge in candidates highlights the increasing stakes as Nepal moves closer to the 2026 elections.
